Chiefly papers, 1952-1954, related to Anderson's term as mayor of the city of Columbia, S.C., his attendance, 15-20 June 1953, at the 11th International Congress of Local Authorities in Vienna, and several items related to operations of the City of Columbia, including complaint log for years 1951-1954, re sanitation and maintenance issues, pot holes, flooding, barking dogs, dangerous intersections, etc.; and correspondence, 1953, re $2,000,000 of Columbia Revenue Bonds for Waterworks and Sewer System, including letter, 6 May 1953 from Thomas F. Maxwell, City Manager, re Anderson's signature on bonds (on letterhead stationery of Columbia with slogan, "in the heart of the Palmetto State"). ; letter, 18 Nov. 1952 from Arthur H. Vandenburg on letterhead of the Office of Dwight D. Eisenhower, thanking Anderson for his letter congratulating Gen. Eisenhower on his victory in the presidential election, and reporting that the President-Elect was on a vacation in Georgia. Significant portion of papers include correspondence, itineraries, brochures, budgets, published booklets re Anderson's travels to New York, Paris (France) and Vienna (Austria) to attend the Vienna General Assembly of the International Union of Cities held June 15-20, 1953. Letter, 23 Mar. 1953, confirms hotel arrangements in the American sector of Vienna; organizations represented include the United States Conference of Mayors, Rotary International, and the Forum Club of Columbia, S.C. This collection also includes two illustrated printed booklets published ca. 1952 re kindergartens and pre-school education in Vienna, Austria: Der 150 Kindergarten der Stadt Wien by Rudolf J. Boeck and Die Kindergarten der Stadt Wien by Dr. Ernst Kothbauer. Other items include letter, 5 May 1953 (Beverly Hills, Calif.) from Abner Kreisberg of the Numismatic Gallery re appraisal of value of Columbia Commemorative half dollars with copy of newsletter; and several identification cards and notifications, 1917-1918, related to Anderson's service in World War I.
